Action #1: Mark your calendar for tomorrow’s Climate Strike

  • Date: Friday, Dec. 6
  • Time: 2 pm.
  • Location: Ventura County Government Center at the corner of Victoria Ave. & Telephone Rd.

(Facebook link with more info here.) If you’re concerned about the very real existential crisis we are facing, please join us on Dec 6, 2019 at this Second Global Climate Strike, a multigenerational event which will give fellow Ventura County residents another chance to come together to express their passionate concerns about the climate emergency we are facing and, very importantly, to build momentum by giving people somewhere to put that passionate energy after the strike: by having representatives there at ”protest corner” to collect contact data, to sign people up for their organizations’ plans and projects, to take people to the next level in their activism from performative one-time protest to sustained/sustainable, effective real-life action.

Action #2: Go to the movies Friday night!

(Facebook link and map here.) Join the Chalice Community Forum Friday evening (12/6) at 7 pm at 3327 Old Conejo Rd, Newbury Park, to view this award-winning documentary and for discussion with Ron Whitehurst, Specialist in Biological Ecosystem Management.
With only 60 years of farmable soil left on Earth, “The Need To GROW” offers an intimate look into the hearts of activists and innovators in the food movement: an 8-year-old girl challenges the ethics of a beloved organization; a renegade farmer struggles to keep his land as he revolutionizes resource efficient agriculture; and an accomplished visionary inventor faces catastrophe in the midst of developing a game-changing technology.

“The Need to GROW” delivers alarming evidence on the importance of healthy soil — revealing not only the potential of localized food production working with nature, but our opportunity as individuals to help regenerate our planet’s dying soils and participate in the restoration of the Earth.

The good news is there ARE solutions to our global climate and ecological breakdown. The Need to Grow follows pioneers as they work to localize sustainable food systems and regenerate Earth’s dying soils.

Perhaps the best film on sustainability I have ever seen.
–Teddy Grouva, Founding Director – American Documentary Film Festival
I loved this movie…it was one of those environmental movies that gave me hope.
–Todd James, Global News
