That’s a classic pay-to-play bribery scheme. He solicited something of personal value in exchange for official U.S. actions.
Bribery is one of the only crimes specifically described in the Constitution as impeachable.
That’s why the House Judiciary Committee is moving forward with impeachment hearings this week.

The White House and their Republican allies on Capitol Hill are more focused on obstruction than defending Trump’s actions.
- House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Doug Collins promises to use procedural tricks to obstruct the hearing on Wednesday.
- The White House is refusing to participate in the Judiciary Committee proceedings or even send a lawyer, undermining their complaints about an unfair process.
- The White House continues to block witnesses and documents they claim would exonerate Trump, including White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and former National Security Advisor John Bolton.
The reason is clear: The White House defense of Donald Trump has collapsed and Republicans cannot defend Trump on the substance of the underlying charges.
- A major defense from the White House has been EU Ambassador Gordon Sondland’s testimony that Donald Trump told him there was “no quid pro quo.” New evidence shows that call never happened.
