INDIVISIBLE VENTURA

Actions

Tell your senators to vote “NO!” on the GOP’s deceptively-named voter suppression legislation.

The SAVE Act is part of the GOP’s campaign to make xenophobic Americans (their favorite kind!) believe that our elections are being overrun with undocumented voters, requiring ever more draconian identification measures for each election.

By requiring proof of citizenship prior to voting EVERY TIME, more than 9% of American citizens will lose their right to vote.

The GOP is betting that these people would vote for Democrats, so no loss for them, and by putting the question in MAGA minds, they can call out any election that doesn’t end with a win for them.

He’s gone too far. Ask the DOJ to invoke the Ku Klux Klan Act against Texas AG Ken Paxton for his raids on Latino voters

As people who do voter registration regularly, we were sickened to hear about the armed police raids against Latino voting activists and political operatives, conducted as part of a vindictive voter fraud inquiry by the Texas attorney general, Ken Paxton.

It is unfortunate that the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871 is still relevant in 21st-centura America. But thanks to the actions of far-right Trump supporters like Paxton, it’s obvious that its protections are still necessary.

Join LULAC in urging Attorney General Merrick Garland at the Department of Justice to quickly address these gross violations of American citizens’ rights to organize and vote without fear.

THINGS TO KNOW!

No matter what Trump and the GOP say, Project 2025 is alive and kicking!

No matter what Trump says about his involvement with Project 2025…IT IS ALREADY STARTING!
“Disastrous spending cuts and harmful and divisive policy riders” straight out of Heritage’s manual for an authoritarian takeover are already being written into funding bills by the GOP-controlled House.
Rep. Rosa L. DeLauro, Ranking Member of the Committee on Appropriations is sounding the alarm. Read her letter here. (https://tinyurl.com/P2025-warning-letter)
Here is a link to a comprehensive list showing Project 2025 policies, with page numbers, to the GOP’s funding bills. It is terrifying. (https://tinyurl.com/P2025-already-starting)

Compare the two candidates on health care policies.

This is a very interesting site (https://trumpfile.org). “Trump File is a timeline. Every event is dated according to when it occurred, not when we found out about it. Our goal is to chronologically document the life and crimes of Donald Trump, his administration, and his allies. But we’re not even close to finished.”

EVERYDAY ACTIONS

Task #1 – Democracy isn’t going to save itself.
We can’t just depend on the Democrats to educate people on Project 2025 – they’ve got their hands full promoting specific candidates and now they’ve got this whole Biden thing to deal with. We all need to become trusted messengers spreading the word about the wider threat of Project 2025 to friends, relatives, and our wider social circles. Talk to Republicans too. For those who still see themselves as “fiscal conservatives,” this may not be what they signed up for.

Task #2 – Talk about voting.
A lot of people will be harmed by a Christo-fascist regime – our immigrant and LGBTQ communities, our schools, teachers and librarians, those vulnerable to pollution and climate change, girls and women no longer in control of their reproductive lives, religious and racial minorities, elderly, children and disabled folks who depend on social safety nets, those living in public housing, workers, union members, etc… Even if each group banded together, there are not enough of them to defend themselves from the danger to come.

Biden’s resignation has changed the conversation a bit, but there will still be people who will be disappointed, no matter who takes his place. Our home-grown perfectionists will express this by declaring they aren’t going to vote, or that they will vote 3rd party to “send a statement”  – that the replacement isn’t who they wanted, isn’t (fill in the blank) enough, or that they want “to hold them accountable” for saying or doing (fill in the blank). It took Germans generations to admit to supporting a man who promised to make Germany great again. Imagine trying to explain to our own future kids and grandchildren why we didn’t do all that we could to defend democracy when we had the chance.

Task #3 – Vote for love!
Instead of letting anger or ego drive one’s vote, vote for democracy. Vote for the future. Vote for the opportunity to vote again. And, as corny as this may sound, vote for love. Visualize the faces of those you love who will be harmed under a Christo-fascist regime, and then TELL THEM you are dedicating your vote to protecting them. They know they are vulnerable. Let them know you have their back.
