MAGA Sues to Deny Immigrant Families Their American Dream: Mapping the Fallout
16 Republican-Led States Challenge Program to Aid Undocumented Spouses
The Biden-Harris administration ‘Keeping Families Together’ program would give legal status to undocumented immigrants who are married to U.S. citizens.
“Republican elected officials continue to demonstrate that they are more focused on playing politics than helping American families or fixing our broken immigration system. The lawsuit aims to separate American citizens from their spouses and stepchildren who are already eligible for lawful permanent residency and could remain together through this process…” — NY Times

Crass MAGA Politics of tearing families apart
“FWD.us, a bipartisan organization focused on immigration and criminal justice reform, defended the program as being legally compliant. The group also pointed out the timing of the lawsuit, which coincided with Vice President Kamala Harris accepting the Democratic nomination for president.
“The only motivation behind this lawsuit is the cruelty of tearing families apart and the crass politics of hoping a judge might do the bidding of the anti-immigrant movement,” said FWD.us
In order to qualify for the program, immigrants must have lived in the U.S. for at least 10 years continuously, have no disqualifying criminal record, pose no security threat and have been married to a U.S. citizen by June 17—the day before the program’s announcement.” — Newsweek
Keeping Families Together
“The new Keeping Families Together process will allow thousands of eligible undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens to apply for the opportunity to adjust their status in the United States, through parole in place.
Parole in place (PIP) is a long-utilized method to provide relief for certain undocumented individuals who are already building their lives in the United States. President Biden’s June 2024 PIP announcement, the Keeping Families Together process, will allow eligible undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens to apply for work authorization, protection from deportation, and the opportunity to adjust their status in the United States.” — FWD.us
