Sunday – 06/23/2024 – ONLINE – Taking Advantage: How corporate health insurers harm America’s seniors (5:00 pm) 

“Delays. Denials. Unexpected out-of-pocket costs.

Everywhere people with so-called “Medicare Advantage” plans turn, they encounter barriers to the care they need—and the care their physicians have prescribed. 

Join us to learn about the many ways that corporate health insurers harm seniors and people with disabilities—and how YOU can fight back. Our program includes: 

* Sen. Elizabeth Warren urging advocates (and her fellow legislators) to stand up and reclaim Medicare as a public program 

* Dr. Ed Weisbart presenting a new report on the harm caused by Medicare Advantage corporations, researched by Physicians for a National Health Program 

* Personal stories of patients and physicians who have been harmed by Medicare Advantage corporations We’ll also have suggestions on how YOU can take action to end the abuses of corporate health insurance, dramatically improve the traditional Medicare program, and put the U.S. on a path to a Medicare-for-All system that brings everybody in and leaves nobody out.

Join Justice For All Ventura County and Indivisible Ventura on the 2nd anniversary of the Dobbs decision in the Supreme Court. We gather to protest, to support one another, and to let our representatives know that we do not accept the current state of reproductive rights in the U.S. Women’s Marchers across the country are striking, are not spending any money, and not performing labor on this day to protest our rights being rolled back. Sunday – 06/30/2024 – OXNARD – SWAP MEET JUSTICE – SOCIAL JUSTICE FAIR returns to Oxnard College’s Marketplace from 9:00 am – 3:00! We are located near the gym.

MORE INFORMATION:

Our citizenship fair charges no fees and there are no appointments, or county residency required for assistance on completing applications for citizenship, DACA and green card renewals and voter registration, or for just asking great immigration lawyers questions about your status. We suggest applicants come early before there’s a line! No new applications will be started after 2:00 pm. 

We have some great family resources joining us again, including Medi-CAL navigators from Interface who can sign people up right there at the fair. 

We also have an expungement clinic run by attorneys from the Ventura County Public Defenders office. This is a great time to get those misdemeanors removed and/or to talk to an attorney about legal issues that continue to form obstructions to your path forward.

Saturday – 07/20/2024 – OXNARD – Fundraiser – Help the Homeless (10:00 am – 10:00 pm) Oxnard High School 

Join us in Solidarity and Unity to help Oxnard form a funding source for our unhoused community! Together we can make a difference in our Homeless Community. 
This is a 12 hr. event held to acknowledge the unhoused struggle and battle of homelessness. 
This TEAM-based event includes continuous walking intermixed with lots of fun activities. 
Together, we can make an impact in our communities’ homeless situations! So many numerous reasons society is forced into homelessness. 
Our Teams’ funds raised go directly to our local service providers.

VENTURA’S POSTCARD BRIGADE is now the VENTURA COUNTY POSTCARD BRIGADE!!! 

Sheila at Runisbliss@aol.com will be taking over postcarding coordination for a county-wide effort! 

You will be getting email(s) from her setting out the procedure going forward. Debby will continue to help with delivering and mailing packets to the writers, and for Ventura residents, her front porch will continue to be the pick up location. Contact her at ivpostcards@gmail.com for any questions about this changeover.
 
Please notify us of any changes! We also want to update our writer roster – some people may have moved, some may be dropping out of postcarding, other people may want to get on the roster.  

As we move into the 2024 election season, getting our voters out to the polls is even more important than it was before.  Get out your pens and get ready to write!
