Hi friends,
As we celebrate Pride Month this June, the Oakland County Democratic Party proudly stands with the LGBTQ+ community in honoring the progress we’ve made together and recognizing the work still ahead of us. Pride Month is a time to celebrate love, diversity, and the unwavering spirit of the LGBTQ+ community. It commemorates the historic Stonewall Riots of June 1969, which ignited the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. This month, we reflect on the courage and determination of those who have fought tirelessly for equality and justice. Our party is committed to advancing the rights and well-being of the LGBTQ+ community. Over the past years, we have achieved significant milestones, including: Marriage Equality: Celebrating the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, which legalized same-sex marriage nationwide, affirming that love is love. Anti-Discrimination Protections: Supporting the expansion of protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in housing, employment, and public accommodations. Healthcare Access: Advocating for inclusive healthcare policies that address the unique needs of the LGBTQ+ community, ensuring access to quality care for all. While we have made substantial progress, our work is far from over. We must continue to fight against discrimination, support mental health initiatives, and ensure the safety and dignity of all LGBTQ+ individuals. To gain further insight and strengthen our efforts, we invite you to connect with our LGBTQ+ Chair, Liz Carnegie. Liz’s leadership and dedication are invaluable as we strive to create a more inclusive and equitable community.
Join us in celebrating Pride Month by participating in local events, sharing stories of resilience and pride, and standing up for the rights of our LGBTQ+ neighbors. Together, we can build a future where everyone is free to be their authentic selves. For further insights and to get involved, please reach out to our OCDP Headquarters.
With Love,
