American woman stay from me: SCOTUS

MAGA Justices on the Supreme Court prepare to ban EMTALA emergency care for pregnant women.

“Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) is the federal law requiring life-saving and stabilizing treatment in hospital emergency rooms… Idaho claims their law requires them to stabilize both women and their “unborn child.” — Jessica Valenti

This seems to be the MAGA Justices playbook from The Guess Who:

American woman, Stay away from me
American woman, Don’t come a‑hangin’ around my door
I don’t wanna see your face no more
I got more important things to do

Use this infographic to follow the stories of women denied abortion care as a result of the decision by MAGA justices overturning Roe v. Wade. Now the same justices are further set to restrict womens’ reproductive rights.

MAGA Justices prepare to deny emergency care for pregnant women

“EMTALA was passed by Congress in 1986 and signed by President Ronald Reagan, to address concerns that hospital emergency rooms were turning away patients, especially poor ones or those without insurance.

The law says that if a patient goes to an emergency room with an “emergency medical condition,” hospitals must either provide treatment to stabilize the patient or transfer the patient to a medical facility that can, regardless of the patient’s ability to pay. It applies to any hospital that receives Medicare funding and has an emergency department — most hospitals in the United States.

Hospitals that violate the law can face consequences including fines and exclusion from further Medicare funding.” — NY Times

“This case could radically change how emergency medical care is practiced in this country and could make pregnant people second-class citizens in America’s emergency rooms”, said Alexa Kolbi-Molinas, deputy director of the ACLU Reproductive Freedom Project told Salon.

Take Away: Protect women’s freedom to control their bodies. Vote for President Biden and Democrats.
