Letter from the Chair

Dear Defenders,

Election Day 2024 is 230 days away, and early voting starts 27 days before then!

I know how I’ll be spending the next 33 weeks, and I hope you all will join me to do everything we can to elect more Democrats up and down the ballot.

First, check E-QUAL and make sure you’ve signed all the candidate petitions that you may. Arizona for Corporation Commission and state legislature candidates need more signatures to get on the ballot, and the deadline to turn them in is April 1.

Run for Precinct Committeeperson, get your petition signed and drop it off at the CC Dems office by March 25. If you choose the write-in option, that paperwork is due at the office on April 9. PCs are the foundation of the Coconino County Democratic Party!

Next, buy your Roosevelt-Kennedy Gala tickets and invite a friend to join us. Choose a Day Match Donor (DMD) and make your donation on their day or spread it across several days. The DMD program is the biggest fundraiser of the year; we’re counting on it to support all the work we do to further the Democratic Party goals.

Enroll in our Act Blue monthly donor program or consider raising your level of giving if you’re already giving monthly.

Then, sign up for the Volunteer Training on March 26th and get involved with one of our many opportunities: Arizona for Abortion Access initiative, office work, events, phone bank, Family Food Center, voter outreach, and more. Check out Mobilize.us to find additional training from ADP, DNC, Indivisible, and others focused on enshrining abortion healthcare in our state constitution and winning Arizona for Biden-Harris.

Set aside November 5 to join us at the Orpheum for an Election Night Watch Party. I’m expecting a great big blue celebration in a room full of people who made it happen. I can’t think of anything sweeter or more important than saving our Democracy, together.

Blue AZ 2024,

Laura

Boost Our Candidates over the Line and onto the Ballot!
Please check E-QUAL and make sure you have signed the petitions for Democrats. Our ACC and some State office candidates are still in need of signatures to qualify for the ballot!

The roster of Democratic candidates for state, county, and legislative offices is filling in. And because of the new date for the summer Primary Election, these candidates are facing an imminent deadline of April 1 to file signatures to get on the ballot! Go to this page on our website to meet our candidates:

To help them reach the requirements for signatures (and, for Clean Election candidates, the requirement for $5 campaign donations), find them on the E-QUAL page on the Arizona Secretary of State website:

https://apps.azsos.gov/equal

https://apps.azsos.gov/apps/election/eps/op

It takes only a minute to help our candidates secure their positions on the ballot – do it now!

We Need YOU to Serve as a Precinct Committee Person!

You’ve heard us describe the importance of our PC’s – the Precinct Committee persons who serve as our liaisons to the wider community. Though new terms don’t begin officially until fall, NOW is the time to step forward to keep our County Party moving.

Whether you are a current PC planning to stay connected, or you are interested in becoming a PC for the first time, you have two options for nominating yourself.

You can file a nominating petition with the signatures of 10 registered Democrats who live in your precinct (deadline to bring to our office is March 25);

OR

You can file an affidavit to be a write-in candidate without needing any other signatures (must be dated and brought to our office between April 2 and April 8).

Pick up the appropriate petitions at our office in the Historic Ice House, downtown Flagstaff (201 E. Birch, Suite 6).

Petitions and affidavits should be returned to the office prior to the deadlines so we can track how we are doing on filling our available slots.

Please purchase your tickets for our 24th annual Roosevelt-Kennedy gala, and join us April 20th for an evening of celebration and camaraderie.

Help us raise funds for our work to swing Arizona blue in 2024!

Tickets are on sale now!

$125 per person or $1,000 per table.

Learn about the event and purchase tickets through ActBlue or

mail or bring payment in person to the office.

Submissions should be no more than 350 words. The Eleanor Roosevelt Award recognizes a person whose contributions to the community echo the example set by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, and whose life and work are an answer to her call to action.

“Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home—so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world. Yet they are the world of the individual person; the neighborhood he lives in, the school or college he attends; the factory, farm or office where he works. Such are the places where every man, woman and child seeks equal justice, equal opportunity, equal dignity without discrimination. Unless these rights have meaning here, they have little meaning anywhere. Without concerned citizen action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world.”

Thanks to Our 2024 Roosevelt – Kennedy Day Match Donors!

Many of you remember from previous years that we use the occasion of our Roosevelt – Kennedy event to raise significant funds for our political activities through a Day Match Donor program. Generous individuals, couples, and small teams put up dollars to “sponsor” a day during a two-week window. And then they (and the rest of us) work to draw attention to “their day” when friends, family, and colleagues can donate to match their initial gift. This year the Day Matches will run April 6 – 19.

This is an early notice – see the list of donors and their days below, and consider making your own gift to match one (or more) while encouraging your own contacts to do the same on the day of their choice.

April 6 Dawn Schackner, Denbie Nash, Dana Jolly, Linda Guarino, Sally Harvey, and Patti VanTuyl
