2024 State of the Union Highlights

Biden Scores a Homerun (with VIDEO)

During the State of the Union address, President Biden displayed a feisty and forceful demeanor, earning applause from Democrats while facing criticism from Republicans. He delivered fiery criticism of Trump without naming him, depicting him as dangerous to American democracy and global peace. Biden announced plans for a new port to provide aid to Gaza and mentioned potential airdrops to the region. He emphasized tough border measures without vilifying immigrants. Additionally, Biden briefly mentioned efforts to reform marijuana policies. Read more, and check out great highlights from the speech and his campaign video.

Do you feel that Michigan prisoners who have served more than 10 years deserve a 2nd look at their case? If so, let your representatives know before March 19!

Do you feel that Michigan prisoners who have served more than 10 years deserve a 2nd look at their case? If so, let your representatives know before March 19!Did you know that incarcerated people in Michigan serve, on average, the longest sentences in the nation? Did you know that national research over decades suggest that certainty, not length of sentence, has a deterrent impact? Or, Did you know that it costs $38,000 to keep one person incarcerated for one year? Well if you think that we ought to do something about this issue, let your voice be heard for all the folks who cannot speak freely (due to incarceration). Nationally and locally, legal experts and lawmakers are furthering opportunities to reconsider long prison sentences. Senator Stephanie Chang, along with numerous co-sponsors signed on to support the Second Look Bill package house bills 4556 – 4560 and senate bills 321 – 325. This bill package would offer incarcerated persons the opportunity to apply for a reduction of sentence after serving ten years.
Join us in supporting the Second Look Bill package by signing and sharing this petition HERE. Also, a special hearing is currently scheduled to look at this legislation on Tuesday, March 19 in Lansing so be sure to let your representatives know how you feel! For more details, please respond to this email and we will send you national and statewide information.

ICYMI: Distill Social’s NEW Podcast, Point of Disorder

The hosts of Point of Disorder gleefully tear apart the fabric of far-right hypocrisy with the precision of a surgeon on a caffeine binge, dissecting everything from awkward cheerleader dances at Mar-a-Lago to Taylor Swift’s apparent terrorizing of MAGA supporters. Plus, they name their first ever “Loser of Lansing.” Between the snarky commentary on “family values” and the endless supply of political scandals, it’s a wonder anyone has time to actually govern. Listener discretion is advised.
