Indivisible Yolo’s Fast Start to a New Year – Join Us

2024 will be a year like no other. As we pivot from a primary focus on advocacy to hold electeds accountable to a focus on electoral work, already IY volunteers and others from like-minded groups have been registering new voters and canvassing across the Central Valley. And IY launched the new Thursdays for California Phone Bank beginning with CA-13 just this past week.

In the past, California held its primaries much later in the year and many progressives saved all the energy for after the primary. This year the ballots for the primary election will be mailed out in less than 2 weeks! To those who might profess that primary turnout makes no difference, consider that in all of the five districts in purple California where the sum total of votes for Democrats in the 2022 primary fell short of 50%, we lost in the fall. Past performance doesn’t predict future results but it does give cause to both expanding the pool of registered voters and getting out the vote. Both Central Valley districts suffer from below average rates of eligible voters that are registered and voter turnout.

That’s why Indivisible Yolo has partnered with the Bay Area Coalition and joined the California Grassroots Alliance to help flip CA-13 and CA-22 in the Central. We hope you can join us in person this Tuesday at 5:15PM at our Davis watch party for the Bay Area Coalition 2024 Election Kickoff with guest speaker, Heather Cox Richardson. If you can’t make it in person, plan to join the Zoom event from 5:30 – 6:30.

Please remember to bookmark our calendar and the Indivisible Yolo LinkTree to get the most up to date information on all of electoral work and follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

While we’re shifting into full-blown electoral work, let’s also remember that on our local front, working with other groups in Woodland, our activism led to a successful recall petition of Woodland School Board Trustee Emily MacDonald and now that recall is on the ballot March 5th. This is where our activism truly meets our electoral work and you can join a canvassing shift here.

Contact your Senator: Reject Trump-Era Immigration Policies

For months, Senators have been negotiating over what’s called the “supplemental” funding package — additional money the Biden administration requested from Congress to respond to crises around the world. Republicans are playing brazen, dangerous hardball in order to force Trump-era immigration policies in exchange for support for Ukraine, and Democrats are considering caving to their demands.

They haven’t reached a deal yet, but the policies on the table are nothing short of breath-taking: an end to asylum for everyone except the small number of folks who can afford to buy a flight into the U.S., mass deportation — nationwide — without a hearing, and a dramatic increase in the incarceration of asylum-seekers, including families, and a restart to Trump’s signature Title 42 policy.

These policies would be dangerous and harmful enough on their own. But we’re heading into a tough election year with Trump and Trump-acolytes threatening to take back power, we cannot hand them even more tools to inflict their cruel agenda on vulnerable people.

Call your Senator now and tell them to say no to MAGA immigration policies.
