Holiday Party, Parades, & Other Upcoming Events!

Join us for some holiday cheer this Thursday Dec 14, 5:30-7:30pm at the BrewLab!  No agendas or speeches – just local Democrats getting together to enjoy a holiday gathering, reflect on a big 2023 coming to a close and getting ready for all the critical work to be done in 2024!

Also, we’ll be marching in two important parades celebrating the rich history of freedom and progress in our community.  We need marchers!  The parades are Jan. 1 (Emancipation Day) and Jan. 15 (MLK Jr. Day) and both will gather at Burke High School.

Voter Registration Deadline Approaching (January 4th)!

Spending time with a High School junior or senior over the holidays?  Register them to vote by January 4!

Yes, anyone who will be 18 years old by the general election on November 5, 2024 is eligible to register and vote NOW.  That means 17 year-olds can register and vote in this primary if they will turn 18 on or before November 5th next year.  Register to vote at SCvotes.org before January 4th!

Better yet, want to get some experience in helping run an election?  Anyone 16 years or older can sign up now to be a poll worker.  Our Presidential Primary is on a Saturday (Feb 3) so you don’t have to miss work or school, and will still be paid $200 to make democracy happen!

2024 Emancipation Day Parade

Join the Democratic Party as part of the Emancipation Parade Celebration, which has been in Charleston since 1865.  Our city recognition of 155 years annual celebration signifies the most consistent parade in the United States. The Parade’s purpose is to celebrate the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation by President Abraham Lincoln to “forever free all slaves in southern states”.

2024 Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade

Join the Democratic Party’s participation in Charleston’s annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration, first held in 1972, was one of the first national tributes of its kind. It is the largest MLK celebration in South Carolina and one of Charleston’s longest running events.
