What have Dems done for you lately?
It’s the law! Thanks to Michigan’s Democratic legislature, Governor Whitmer was able to sign the MI Healthy Climate Plan on Tuesday. The legislation requires utilities to get 100% of their energy from clean sources by 2040 and unlocks billions in federal funding made possible through the landmark environmental legislation, the Inflation Reduction Act (thanks again for your leadership, Dems!). Read more about Michigan Dems’ remarkable work to protect our environment.
More good news – the Biden administration awarded a $31.7 million grant to a Michigan company to convert a shuttered coal plant in Southwest Detroit into one that produces energy-efficient windows for homes and businesses, a project that promises to produce 277 new jobs.
And speaking of jobs – Michigan now has more people back to work than in late 2019, months before the pandemic hit.
Protecting Washtenaw County’s Water
Another great Dem – Evan Pratt, our long-serving Water Resources Commissioner – is an essential leader in a team of volunteers and organizations working year-round to keep our waters clean. Commissioner Pratt spoke briefly at our October membership meeting. Here he is in an interview with WEMU’s David Fair about the “village” of volunteers he helps lead.‘
