Remembering Pearl Harbor

Last week, one of the Republican speakers at an IRC meeting in Payson invited all present to attend a “Celebration of Pearl Harbor,” tonight. This shocked me: I’ve never thought to “celebrate” Pearl Harbor. As FDR said, I’ve remembered it as a day of “infamy.” We honor the service members who fought back. A visit to the USS Arizona is a solemn occasion, not a celebration. This is just one more example of the terrible divisions that have grown in our country, it seems to me.

~Ann Heitland, Chair.

Native American Organizing

We continue to work closely with Navajo and Apache county parties to organize among Indigenous populations in northeastern Arizona, who were so important to flipping Arizona in federal races in 2020. For the last few weeks, we’ve worked hard together to generate comments to the Independent Redistricting Commission.

This Friday, 9 am – 10 am, join Navajo County Democratic Party Executive Director Jaynie Parrish (Diné) of the Northeast Arizona Native Democrats & our team of Native organizers to get a special preview of our plan for the 2022 Midterms races.

We’ll share how you can support the work of our Native organizing team as we fight to flip Arizona’s Governor, Attorney General, and Corporation Commission blue and defend the statewide gains made in 2018 and Mark Kelly’s hard-won Senate seat – all while fighting the blatant attacks on our voting rights coming from the radical GOP state legislators.Mobilize link:  https://www.mobilize.us/aznativeorganizingcampaign/event/428579/
