At 12 a.m today the minimum wage in Florida was raised from $8.65 an hour to $10 an hour. Tipped workers’ hourly wage increased from $5.63 an hour to $6.98.
In reaction to this important day for so many Florida working families, Florida Democratic Spokesman José Dante Parra issued the following statement:
“Today’s minimum wage hike is great news for our state and its workers. After so many years of fighting for this increase, we are finally on our way to paying workers the types of salaries they need to be able to live and meet their basic needs. This will lead to greater prosperity for Florida, more spending power in the hands of our workers, and a fairer level of compensation for the state’s labor force.
“We look forward to the minimum increases scheduled for the next five years, one additional dollar per hour every year until 2026. Each one of those hikes will represent another important step towards a more prosperous and equitable economy and a fairer labor market in our state.”
