Marco Rubio has already made clear that he hates his job in the Senate, and now following his self-serving trip to Iowa this week to score political points for yet another failed presidential campaign, Rubio refused to commit to serving a full third term.
“This is another sad reminder that Marco Rubio cares more about advancing his political agenda than doing the job Floridians elected him to do,” said Florida Democratic Party spokesperson Grant Fox. “While it’s no surprise that Rubio would quit early considering he has one of the worst vote attendance records in the Senate, Floridians clearly deserve better.”

- In his first trip to Iowa since he ran for president in 2016, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio said he’s focused on helping the friends he made in the first-in-the-nation caucus state while gearing up for his own reelection bid.
- Though he said he is not thinking about it on this trip, Rubio has not closed the door to a future presidential run.
- “Ultimately, I don’t know what the future will hold or what my life would look like in two years — or not to mention four years from now,” he said. “If I had described the world five years ago to any of you, you wouldn’t believe half the things that have happened in the last five years.”

- As for whether he’ll run for president again, Rubio says he doesn’t know what the future holds. “I imagine in 2024 I, like others, will have to view what the opportunities are and I’ve run for president before, so clearly it’s something that’s interested me, but it’s certainly not something that right now I’m either planning or not planning.”
Statement by FDP Chair as the Labor Department Reports U.S. Jobless Claims Hit a New Pandemic-Era Low Last Week
Today the Labor Department reported that initial filings for unemployment fell last week. Jobless claims totaled 340,000 for the week ending August 28, 2021. This is the lowest level since March of 2020, just before the pandemic caused a spike in claims for unemployment benefits.
In response to this welcome news, Florida Democratic Party Chair Manny Diaz issued the following statement:
“Today’s news on U.S. jobless claims having reached a pandemic-era low last week is further proof that President Biden’s and the Democratic Party’s sound, pro-growth policies are working for our country. The economy is recovering, job growth across the nation is strong and Americans are getting back to work.
“In spite of opposition from Republicans in Congress, including Florida Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott, who rejected President Biden’s stimulus bill, America’s economy is on the mend and experiencing a rebound that exceeds most analysts’s forecasts.
“It is no wonder that polls consistently show that a solid majority of Americans approve of this administration’s performance on the economic front. President Biden and the Democratic Party are delivering on their promise of bringing about a robust economic recovery, and with much-needed infrastructure spending just over the horizon, this is only the beginning.”
