AZ Congressional Districts Affect You!

See Arizona’s Congressional Districts. Redistricting happens every ten years after the Census is released.  It involves redrawing election boundaries for elected offices in federal, state and local government. Congressional districts as well as city councils and school boards must be redrawn to comply with equal population, the Voting Rights Act, respect for communities of interest, other principles and state-specific criteria.

On March 16, the AZ Independent Redistricting Commission hired Brian Schmitt as the Executive Director.  Many believe Schmitt was the most partisan, least experienced candidate among the five interviewed. In addition, after questioning, Schmitt disclosed he was paid $63,000 for services rendered to the McSally campaign. He stated that he was helping a friend, it was a “one-off” and all he did was coordinate the event on the Yavapai County Courthouse steps on the evening of November 5, 2020.

This was the first time that an IRC Executive Director was hired without receiving a unanimous vote from Commissioners.  Click HERE to read the March 26 AZ Republic article about the nonpartisan hiring of Brian Schmitt.  You can take action and ask that the IRC hires impartial and experienced staff by signing and sharing this PETITION

Learn More About RedistrictingThe Arizona Democratic Party provides multiple hour-long information sessions on the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission. They cover a history of the commission, how our maps are drawn, and how Arizonans can engage in this important process!  Click HERE to read more about and sign up for the sessions.

Right now, there a lot of striker bills being considered by the Arizona legislature.   Remember, “Strike-Everything Amendments” may have bill subjects shown that are completely different from the new text of the bills. The content of the original bill has been removed and completely new verbiage substituted. Please use RTs and contact your legislators about these bills.

Please sign this PETITION telling legislative leadership thatAnti-Voting Bills bills are wrong for Arizona.

Call Sen Sinema & Sen Kelly
To Demand an end to the Filibuster

This archaic Senate rule has become a brick wall for progress on immigration reform, gun safety, and now voting rights. Many policies heavily favored by the majority of Americans of all political stripes fail to progress because a single Senator can object. It’s time for the filibuster to go!

Word is that Senators Sinema and Kelly are being deluged by calls urged on by the extremist right-wing Heritage Society. We have to counter those calls NOW.

CALL SEN KYRSTEN SINEMA at (202) 224-4521
CALL SEN MARK KELLY at (202) 224-2235

Tell them that their own seats in Congress will be in jeopardy if our voting rights aren’t protected against the anti-democratic restrictions on access to the ballot in Arizona. Ending the archaic Senate filibuster rule will help assure passage of the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which will override these awful bills from the AZ Legislature.

CEBV focuses on the state legislature, but the Senate Filibuster is our issue since AZ lawmakers are determined to reduce our access to the polls. The US House and Senate could pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which updates the Voting Rights Act, and the For the People Act, which includes a broad range of democracy reforms, including clean elections, election security, ethics, gerrymandering, campaign finance reform, automatic voter registration, and other broadly popular changes.

#RemovePaulGosar
#CallYourDentist

Paul Gosar is a mouthpiece for dangerous rhetoric and he helped organize the insurrection and he promotes white supremacy. Why does the ADA support him?
Call the ADA at (312) 440-2500
Send an email to govtpol@ada.org

Tell them they need to #RemovePaulGosar from their funding list.
Words matter, but actions matter more. The ADA “counts integrity, diversity, and inclusion among its core values”.

For over a year, Gosar has fueled anti-Asian sentiment with reckless behavior. The ADA President Daniel Klemmedson recognizes that ongoing negative associations of Asian-Americans with the virus contribute to anti-Asian hate crimes.  In February of 2021 at the AFPAC gathering, Paul Gosar used insensitive, dangerous terminology and his taxpayer-funded government website still references insensitive phrases.

The ADA’s continued support of Paul Gosar makes their words hollow.
Will the ADA back up their words with real action?

Social Media for Social Good – Brainstorming Session
 Wednesday, April 7th @ 3pm
Social media creates an open space for organizations, activists, and scientists to reach more people across the world. For the issue of climate change to be front and center in the lives of everyday Americans and people around the world, we can leverage the benefits of social media in connecting like-minded people and creating a larger awareness of the climate change crisis.  People can speak their voice to protect the mother earth.

We are going to do a fun, easy action – a few photos taken from somewhere pretty in Prescott while showing the 51 star flag!   We want volunteers to hold the flags to show Prescott Indivisible’s support for DC Statehood.  As always, we will be “Covid-Safe”.

We will send the photos to the Indivisible Arizona Social Team who will go live with them on Friday, April 16 (DC Emancipation day).  Click here to read about Emancipation Day. Use the hashtags: #51stars + #DCStatehood
P.S. Unsure why Indivisible supports DC Statehood? DC is a majority-POC population who deserve representation: Click here for more informationwatch a quick video and go here for a call to action. Or, read the Indivisible book from 2019, page 257. Photo Date TBD – but will probably be the week of  April 12
