What’s Going On:
We always knew the fight wasn’t over. We kicked the Vote-Suppressor-in-Chief out of the White House and broke the GOP stranglehold on the Senate – so now Republicans are desperately trying to stop the folks who vote against them from voting:
- No vote by mail in Georgia
- Nearly two dozen bills to restrict voting in Arizona
- Reducing early voting and closing polling places earlier in Iowa
- And more.
These all disproportionately affect marginalized groups and reinforce structural racism. They’re an assault on our representative democracy, and we need to fight them!
What You Can Do:
We can fight these efforts two ways: push for nationwide voter protections and resist the suppression efforts directly. Join us to do both!
- Help get voter protections nationwide: H.R. 1 / S. 1, the For The People Act, is a comprehensive nationwide voting rights act. Read our article on how the For the People Act would also help election security. It passed the House, but the GOP will filibuster to block it in the Senate. Join Indivisible East Bay’s Zoom phone bank this Saturday, March 20, at 1 PM – we’ll call Arizonans to fight the filibuster and get the Act passed. RSVP here.
- Help fight voter suppression in the States:
- Got friends or family in Georgia, Arizona, Texas, Iowa, or another state that’s battling voter suppression bills? The Fair Fight website has call scripts for Georgia and specific bill numbers and more info for Arizona and New Hampshire – scroll down and look for those states
- Call Georgia with the Center for Common Ground. Lots of phone banks: sign up here
- Join the email campaign from the New Georgia Project to ask CEOs of Georgia-based corporations to stop funding voter suppression. This has had good results already – let’s keep it up!
- Help register and activate more voters to show – we’re not going away!
- Write letters to register Arizona voters
