What office are you running for?
Florida House District 8
With which party are you running for office?
November 3, 2020
Why are you running for office?
Because I could no longer sit down, I had to stand up and act. With my running we are putting up a fight to save our democracy. I want to bring change in leadership to Florida and work for the people! Protect our rights to free and fair elections, reproductive rights, cleaner water, and protect our environment. I want to help families become stronger, provide expansion of Medicaid in Florida, and support fair housing and public schools. Right now we have a government that is working for big business and not for the people. So that must change. I would like to be that change, and bring back compassion and truth in our governance.
What is the biggest issue facing your community and how do you propose helping?
COVID-19 is our biggest issue right now. If we do not get it under control quickly, we are risking large-scale economic decline and continued human casualties. We must start following the CDC guidelines to reduce the spread, bring in rapid testing, and give this virus the time and respect that is required to squash it.
How do we fix the partisan divide in our country and start working together again?
- Getting the money out of politics and writing new campaign finance laws to include bringing down Citizens United.
- Strengthening news and media programming regulations to regulate and stop the twisting of facts and presenting false narratives as fact. Recognizing and advertising opinion programming as opinions. Making those shows have disclaimers that refer to the known facts.
- Starting conversations with both sides that is respectful in order to find the common ground. Letting both sides know that we are all Americans and we all share a love of this country.
- Reminding all that peace and love for each other is how we work for change.
Who is your hero?
Ruth Bader Ginsburg
What are your hobbies?
Hobbies? Who has time for hobbies? When my life is my own again, I would enjoy playing some duplicate bridge, reading a good cookbook, cooking and baking, flower gardening, and planting a vegetable garden.
What is the most recent book you read?
Democratic Training Committee Blue Bench Workbook
Do you have any kids/pets/talking houseplants?
I have a husband, Richard Novosad, and we have been married for 38 years and have 2 grown children. The youngest is Dr. Veronica Novosad Samet, a psychiatrist, and my oldest child is Jennifer Novosad. Both are living in the Boston area.
We have a new puppy, that is quickly becoming very important to our lives. He is growing fast and requires lots of time to run. He is a mutt, but looks like a rat terrier.
I love plants and have many in pots around the house, but as of late, most are pleading for more attention, which at this time I cannot provide. But outside I have many that are flowering and I look forward to putting in some tomato plants this fall. My new love is a passion fruit vine, which is giving me loads of red flowers. I have 2 new banana trees that I will plant, my coconut tree is loaded with coconuts full of coconut water. I would love to produce more food on my property, and have plans for more fruiting trees.
How can our readers get involved in your campaign?
Sign up on our website to volunteer or join our Facebook page.
We will be putting together a phone banking group as well. We may do a peer to peer messaging campaign that could use lots of local volunteers. Other than that we need help with getting all these parts to work together, VAN, DECK, the phone banking, and social media parts. So I could really use someone tech savvy.
I need a high-tech volunteer that understands how to win in Red districts. If you have that volunteer, please send them my way.
What question do you wish we’d asked, and what is your answer?
How are you doing with fundraising?
Answer, I could be doing a lot better, but I will keep pushing forward.
