“If Trump wants to talk about the economy, that’s fine — let’s start that conversation with the economy in America’s largest swing state, Florida. It’s not a conversation he’ll want to have.”
On Thursday, Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried denounced the Trump administration’s failed response to the COVID-19 public health and economic crisis in a FOX Business op-ed. She noted how Trump’s allies in Florida have done “very little” to help Floridians who have lost their jobs and livelihoods as a result of Trump and Governor Ron DeSantis’ inaction. Fried discussed Joe Biden’s plan to build an economy that works for American families instead of “Trump’s Wall Street top-one-percent buddies.”
FOX Business: Trump’s economy isn’t keeping America great: Florida Agriculture Commissioner
KEY POINTS:
- “President Trump foolishly rushed to reopen America’s economy while the virus threatened to spiral out of control — and some governors like DeSantis willingly followed his lead.”
- “Florida’s seasonal produce growers feed 150 million Americans — but Trump’s U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) left them in the cold. His snub could cost Florida 8,000 farm jobs and up to $400 million in lost revenue.”
- “While President Trump was failing Southeastern farmers, Governor DeSantis was busy controversially blaming Hispanic farmworkers for COVID-19’s spread in Florida, which farmworker advocates called ‘shameful.’”
- “Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has a plan that will help struggling small businesses and working families build back better. Biden’s plan extends unemployment benefits, provides relief to small businesses, and invests in American manufacturing, instead of sending jobs offshore.”
- “When President Trump talks about the economy at his convention, Americans should remember something: he’ll neither make, nor keep, America great for you.”
