Immediate Action Needed for #InvestinEd

Please read and take action on this IMMEDIATELY!

Our legal team is busy preparing for the start of our trial next week to fight back on the opponents’ baseless claims. With the future of our schools, economy, and state on the line, the stakes are high, and we are leaving nothing to chance.

So how can you help? Help us prevent the legislature from placing a blatant lie about the initiative in the voter information pamphlet by emailing the Legislative Council committee.

Dear Legislative Council Members,
My name is YOUR NAME, and I live in CITY. I’m writing to ask you to amend the Legislative Council’s proposed summary of the Invest in Education Act this Thursday to remove partisan language and make it fair. The summary falsely states that Invest in Ed taxes small businesses and increases taxes by 77%.

Not one business will be taxed with Invest in Ed. Some wealthy owners of businesses who have personal taxable income in excess of $250K (single filers) or $500K (married filers) will be subject to the 3.5% surcharge, but those are not mom & pop small business owners. Those are hedge fund owners, big law firm partners, and other wealthy people whose taxable income puts them in the top 1% of all incomes in Arizona.

The 3.5% surcharge only applies to taxable income in excess of the threshold. So a married couple with annual taxable income of $501,000 will only see an annual tax increase of $35.00 (3.5% of the $1,000 they earn over the threshold). That is less than a 1% increase in their annual taxes.

Volunteers collected signatures from more than 435,000 Arizonans in the middle of a pandemic to get Invest in Ed on the ballot. Now it’s time to let voters decide whether to increase education funding in our state and I urge you to vote to amend this summary. As it is written right now, it will only mislead and confuse voters.

Thank you,
YOUR NAME

P.S. We’re going up against ultra-rich, dark money opponents. We need to make sure we have the resources to defend Invest in Ed.   Can you personally or ask someone else to chip in $20 to our Legal Defense Fund now?
