Candidate Name:
Mari-Lynn Poskin

What office are you running for?
Kansas House of Representatives, District 20
With which party are you running for office?
Democratic Party
Election Date
November 3, 2020
Why are you running for office?
I’m running to be the high energy champion for District 20 values: world-class public schools, strong and healthy communities, and vibrant economic development for Kansas.
What is the biggest issue facing your community and how do you propose helping?
Extremist party leadership keeps the Kansas legislature from passing good public policy like Medicaid expansion. We are only one House seat away from breaking the GOP super majority and District 20 is well-positioned to deliver that seat.
How do we fix the partisan divide in our country and start working together again?
Follow the example of Kansas Governor Laura Kelly! Find common ground and reach across the aisle for bipartisan solutions, as she did with Medicaid expansion and vote to balance the legislatures. Bring more voices to the table and listen. When it’s your turn to talk, use your inside voice.
Who is your hero?
My sister. She’s an exquisite human being with the super power to change lives of special education students, which she has been doing for 35 years.
What are your hobbies?
I’m an avid DIY’er, with tile projects being among my favorite. I love alternative music, sewing and writing. I love the outdoors, especially cycling.
What is the most recent book you read?
The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murikama, translated by Jay Rubin
Do you have any kids/pets/talking houseplants?
Blended family of 7 children, and a couple “international” and “campaign” kids!
How can our readers get involved in your campaign?
Explore our six degrees of separation and identify someone in Kansas who needs to know about us! Follow, like and amplify our social media. Drop some change in our ActBlue acct: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/poskin4ks
What question do you wish we’d asked, and what is your answer?
Proof of your high energy claim? I rode 102 miles in 102 heat index in the beautiful Flint Hills of Kansas the week before we kicked off our campaign. I’m the primary caregiver for my husband who has MS, so I’ve done multiple century rides and been a top fundraiser for Bike MS.
