In a video posted yesterday on Facebook, Yavapai County Health Services Director Leslie Horton shared current Covid-19 statistics. She was joined by YC Board of Supervisors Chair Craig Brown and Mayor Mengarelli, who outlined why he decided not to enact a mandatory “face-mask in public” protocol.
Horton cited the increased numbers of cases in Yavapai County and the health department’s readiness to handle cases.“We highly recommend people wear masks versus mandating it.”
Brown then stated, “The primary focus is to have a common-sense approach to this entire virus, we want everyone to be safe.”
Mengarelli acknowledges, “We highly recommend people wear masks where they can’t distance.” Despite this, he endorses the Fourth of July events, following up with the cavalier statement, “It’s inevitable that we will see more cases, people should know that. That should motivate us to be safer and to do more to protect people.”
Yet he refuses to do what will actually protect the citizens of Prescott, a mandatory “mask-in-public” protocol” citywide.
We are asking you to call and write Mayor Mengarelli and the mayors of Prescott Valley and Chino Valley to demand that they order mandatory masks in public.
