ADVISORY: Florida Democratic Party to Host Virtual Juneteenth Celebration On Friday, June 19, at 6:30 PM, the Florida Democratic Party will host a virtual Juneteenth celebration with an invocation, speakers, and music. While Juneteenth is the more widely known and celebrated date for the end of slavery nationally, in Florida, Emancipation Day is May 20th. This Juneteenth marks 155 years since June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas were told they were free two months after the Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered and the Civil War had ended. 
This event will include the Chairman of the NAACP Board Leon Russell, Pastor Darian Bouie, and speakers from the Democratic Black, Haitian, and Caribbean Caucuses of Florida, including Mayor of Lauderdale Lakes Hazelle Rogers, Florida State Rep. Dianne Hart, and more.
