What office are you running for?
State Senate district 17
With which party are you running for office?
November 3, 2020
Why are you running for office?
To overcome the republican majority in the Florida state senate and advocate for progress for all of Florida.
What is the biggest issue facing your community and how do you propose helping?
Inequality; our current elected officials are not active enough in our community with the majority of the electorate. I intend on meeting with as many of my constituents regularly if elected to ensure I understand their needs so I can take action. I also intend on submitting a bill legalizing recreational marijuana, using tax funds to dramatically increase education spending to $1000 per pupil, commute individuals incarcerated for nonviolent marijuana crimes and expunging the records of individuals arrested in the past. The so called “war on drugs” disproportionately effects persons of color.
How do we fix the partisan divide in our country and start working together again?
Focus less on our differences and remember who we are serving, elect younger new candidates to office who actually represent the electorate.
Who is your hero?
Senator Bernard Sanders who tirelessly advocated for the people his entire career while staying on message the entire time.
What are your hobbies?
Spending time with my wife, reading and playing saxophone
What is the most recent book you read?
Lenin Stalin and Hitler: the age of social catastrophe
Do you have any kids/pets/talking houseplants?
I have two black cats named Binks and Beetle Juice and several houseplants
How can our readers get involved in your campaign?
Please donate to my campaign and get involved in your local politics; we are stronger when united.
What question do you wish we’d asked, and what is your answer?
Who is your opponent: Debbie Mayfield, one of the most powerful republican politicians in Florida and the woman who holds the purse strings of the state. We need every ounce of party support to defeat this opponent and I can not do it alone.
