Candidate Name: Joe Seeman

What office are you running for?

NY State Assembly 112th district

With which party are you running for office?

Democratic Party

Election Date

November 3, 2020

Why are you running for office?

I’m running to continue fighting in the halls of government for what I’ve fought outside government doors for decades. I’m running to see that our government helps build the kind of future we want for our children: a clean environment, good health, good education, good paying jobs and a sustainable economy, good relations with our neighbors, and a voice in our Democracy. I’m running for NY State Assembly because NY has the potential to lead the nation in bold progressive action. As the 13th largest economy in the world, NY is taking a leading role in tackling Climate Change. The engine of our economic recovery can be a Green New Deal, putting unemployed directly back to work building the Clean Energy economy. NY can also pass universal public healthcare, and save money for 98% of us. This too can be a model for the nation. As a leading progressive organizer, I plan to be a critical upstate ally of the Working Families Assembly members and a particularly strong voice for bold action .

What is the biggest issue facing your community and how do you propose helping?

Economic Recovery is the biggest issue we face. I am running to help NY develop a Green New Deal, putting the unemployed directly back to work building the Clean Energy economy of the future.

How do we fix the partisan divide in our country and start working together again?

We focus on the type of future we want for our children, for our communities, regardless of political party or cultural identification. Let’s join together to see that our government helps build the kind of future we want for all our children: a clean environment, good health, good education, good paying jobs and a sustainable economy, good relations with our neighbors, and a voice in our Democracy.

Who is your hero?

Martin Luther King

What are your hobbies?

A candidate for office can have hobbies? You’re kidding. I enjoy getting outdoors, walking, jogging, biking. I occasionally get a chance to play the double bass, guitar or recorder. Pre-Covid-19, I enjoyed schlepping my grandchildren around.

What is the most recent book you read?”

“Where We Go From Here” – Bernie Sanders

Do you have any kids/pets/talking houseplants?

I have a 20 year old college kid who lives at home, 3 other grown kids & 2 grandkids. No pets but a bunch of chipmonks who keep us amused.

How can our readers get involved in your campaign?

This campaign is about representing the 99%. That means you (unless you’re a billionaire or corporate lobbyist). We want to hear your ideas, and participation. We want you to be part of the effort to bring representation and democracy to NY’s 112th Assembly district. Please sign up: https://joeseeman.com/

What question do you wish we’d asked, and what is your answer?

What will you do about Political Corruption? I’ve been fighting for decades for Fair Elections Campaign Finance Reform and to End Legalized Bribery, as an organizer & activist. I will fight in the Assembly to pass Fair Elections reform, Automatic & same day Voter registration, mail-in voting, and other reform needed to strengthen Democracy.
