What office are you running for?

Florida House of Representatives District 43

With which party are you running for office?

Democratic Party

Election Date

Why are you running for office?

I’m running for office because I want to make sure everyone in my community has access to affordable housing, healthcare, a good paying job, and a good public education.

What is the biggest issue facing your community and how do you propose helping?

There are three huge, interlinked, issues. My district includes a lot of workers in the service and tourism industry (in and around Disney World) and we have the lowest median wages in the entire country. Because of this, access to health insurance is nearly impossible (Florida has not yet expanded Medicaid) and affordable housing is incredibly difficult to find. We need more affordable housing, we need healthcare, and we need a more diverse economy. Every time there is a crisis (like the one we are dealing with now with coronavirus) this area struggles dramatically, tens of thousands lose jobs, and it takes years to recover. We cannot keep living like this.

How do we fix the partisan divide in our country and start working together again?

The only way we’re going to heal the “partisan divide” is if we get rid of that which is responsible for it: Mitch McConnell and cynical, far-right Republicans in gerrymandered districts who appeal only to our darkest and most bitter natures. Defeat them, replace them with reasonable moderates, and we can begin to work together and heal as a country.

Who is your hero?

Franklin Delano Roosevelt

What are your hobbies?

Reading and writing fiction, caring for my cat.

What is the most recent book you read?

I’m currently reading “Naked” by David Sedaris but the last book I completed that I truly loved, about a month and a half ago, was “Severance” by Ling Ma. Highly recommended.

Do you have any kids/pets/talking houseplants?

Yeah I have a cat named Neno.

How can our readers get involved in your campaign?

Email me at or call me at 407-986-0480. I’m doing daily Zoom phone banks with volunteers and would love to have more people on board.

What question do you wish we’d asked, and what is your answer?

I would have liked more specific policy questions, like for example “Do you support Medicare For All and why do you feel the way you do?” I do support it because healthcare is a human right and it should not have to depend on what state you live in and whether or not you’re working.
