What office are you running for?

Charleston County Council District 6

With which party are you running for office?

Democratic Party

Election Date

Primary – June 9, 2020; General – November 3, 2020

Why are you running for office?

I am running for Charleston County Council District 6, because I want to expand my service in the community with a greater impact. I want to improve the quality of life for my fellow constituents and Charleston County overall by improving public safety, infrastructure, reducing crime, including, domestic violence, and provide recreational resources for youths.

What is the biggest issue facing your community and how do you propose helping?

There are many issues facing our community, but I feel infrastructure is the biggest issue at this time. Infrastructure is perceived differently throughout the district. For example, the Shadowmoss/Church Creek area (West Ashley) and the Forrest Hills and Pepper Hill area (North Charleston) are facing flooding issues; traffic and road maintenance is an issue throughout the county from West Ashley to North Charleston to Lincolnville. Therefore, I will work to improve infrastructure in our rapidly growing County by partnering with state and federal legislators in every effort possible to bring resources and the necessary tools that will support our present growth and our long-term plans for Charleston County.

How do we fix the partisan divide in our country and start working together again?

I don’t view people by party affiliation. I have friends on both sides and I diligently work with them to address and solve the issues. It is important to look at everyone as an equal and find a common ground so that we can all work together to accomplish what is best for or constituents

Who is your hero?

My late Mother is my hero. I watched her, a single mother raising 5 children, working hard and still finding a way to give unto others even though she wasn’t sure how she was going to make it. I gained my work ethic and my desire for public service from watching her.

What are your hobbies?

My hobbies include fishing, playing golf, working on my bike (motorcycle) and spending quality time with family.

What is the most recent book you read?

Speeches that Changed the World

Do you have any kids/pets/talking houseplants?

I have one son, Zoland; one daughter, Charleigh; a Turquoise-Fronted Amazon Parrott; two dogs and one plant, a Peace Lilly.

How can our readers get involved in your campaign?

They can sign up to volunteer or they can donate. They can also call me to talk one on one about their concerns or suggestions they may have. Checkout our website

What question do you wish we’d asked, and what is your answer?

I would have liked for you to ask where do I want to see Charleston County in the future?
My answer would be I would like to see more innovative infrastructure ideas. We need to work towards not only what will be good for right now but also for the future. I would like to see us prepare to be ahead of the growth and not behind it or to be at present need. The only way to do that is to plan in advance of current needs.
