What office are you running for?
U.S. Senate
With which party are you running for office?
Democratic Party
Election Date
11/3/2020
Why are you running for office?
I am running for office to make sure that we can restore integrity to our court systems, and take back the missions of our national agencies that have been eroding because of the appointees that the Senate has approved. The U.S. Senate is responsible for confirming or denying these appointments and Cory Gardner has lived up to his values by appointing folks to dismantle the EPA, the Interior, the State Department, HUD, Education, health care, and our courts. We need a new type of leadership to restore integrity to our federal government and that new type of leadership is one with a proven track record or putting people first. We don’t have time for career politicians who only care about their own political standing, or for candidates who are in the pockets of the NRA, Big Pharma, or oil & gas. We need people who have real lived experiences battling the healthcare system or struggling to make ends meet with a Master’s and insurmountable student debt, or who live in areas with the poorest air quality due to lack of regulations on oil refineries. We need a new type of leadership.
What is the biggest issue facing your community and how do you propose helping?
There are too many biggest issues. Climate, healthcare, education, and immigration are among those. There are wonderful solutions that are just waiting for champions in the Senate to make a reality like the Dream Act, Green New Deal, Banning Fracking, Gun safety legislation, Medicare For all, and abolishing Ice to name a few.
How do we fix the partisan divide in our country and start working together again?
I have working in non-partisan policy my entire career and we in order to fix the divide, I think we need to get to a people-centered platform first and foremost. The issues that impact all of us are not partisan, but we treat them that way. When we shift the narrative that healthcare is a people-centered issue, not a democratic issue, it allows for conversation from people from all backgrounds.
What are your hobbies?
running, snow boarding, reading comic books and graphic novels
What is the most recent book you read?
Green New Deal by Jeremy Rifkin
Do you have any kids/pets/talking houseplants?
Two little yappy Dogs named Barto and Chavela, two snails, an urban jungle in our house, and the many squirrels outside that we occasionally give peanuts and other goodies too.
