The anti-voting rights bill of 2020 is here, and we need your help to stop it. On March 3rd, the Senate Ethics Committee rushed SB 463 out of committee on a party-line vote, and it will be on the floor of the Senate for a vote as early as the beginning of next week.
SB 463 is a suppressive bill that the State Elections Board is forcing onto Georgia’s legislature to cover up their own repeated failures. Here’s just a sample of what SB 463 could do if it is passed into law:
- Make it far more likely that absentee ballots will be rejected if they do not include a copy of a voter’s ID. It would take a voter having access to a printer to ensure their absentee ballot is counted.
- After years of failing Georgia voters, the Secretary of State uses SB 463 to declare that it’s not his job or the job of the State Elections Board to ensure Georgia’s compliance with federal voting laws. This will open up Georgia’s counties to litigation that comes with great costs.
- In 2018, Georgians faced the longest voting lines in the country. Now, the State Elections Board is seeking to slash the required number of voting machines across the state.
- In addition to cutting voting machine requirements, SB 463 will also mandate “precinct splitting” in precincts with reported long lines, creating confusion for voters and additional unfunded mandates for the counties.
Call or email these key State Senators and tell them to vote NO on SB 463 and to force the State Elections Board to do its job:
