What office are you running for?

US Senate Colorado 2020!

With which party are you running for office?

Democratic Party

Election Date

Caucus — 3/3, primary — 6/30, general — 11/3

Why are you running for office?

Representation! I’d be the first scientist, first woman ever from Colorado, and the first Millennial. In combination I will use experiences to help craft robust policy for the 21st Century — we’ll address climate change, create truly universal and comprehensive healthcare, provide quality education, advance science, work to create a fair and equitable society, and so much more!

What is the biggest issue facing your community and how do you propose helping?

Climate change is the defining issue in Colorado, particularly as we are an oil and gas state. We crafted a science-backed 12pg climate plan that is even more comprehensive and aggressive than the Green New Deal!

How do we fix the partisan divide in our country and start working together again?

I grew up in a conservative home, my whole family voted for Trump to the best of my knowledge. Unlike many of my liberal peers who grew up in Democratic homes, I appreciate the obstacles that keep my family down and misinformed — FOX News, Sinclair broadcasting, low access to internet, etc. There is a time to fight for your values with fervor, and a time to find compassion, empathy and understanding by listening. I’ll give an example… a woman once said another woman shouldn’t get medical care as a DACA recipient. When asked why she said she was American and lost her eye due to not having healthcare. It’s hard to give others something you don’t even have (scarcity of resources problem). The key is to realize that the second woman is also hurting and fighting for what she thinks is scarce, and in finding that compassion and empathy we can work to say, “I hear you, and that’s also wrong. You should never lose an eye due to a lack of healthcare.”

Who is your hero?

What are your hobbies?

Rock climbing, reading, piano, & time with my cat!

What is the most recent book you read?

I’m currently reading several (I like to bounce between them). One is “Invisible Women”, another is “Leadership”, and a third is “People Power & Profits: Progressive Capitalism for an Age of Discontent”

Do you have any kids/pets/talking houseplants?

Yep! 10yo nephew and my cat Mow Mow!

How can our readers get involved in your campaign?

Caucus for us on 3/3 and tell everyone they know in Colorado to do the same! Of course, donations are always helpful. 🙂

What question do you wish we’d asked, and what is your answer?

If I still work!
As I’m not independently wealthy I still teach 3 neuroscience and research methodology courses at the University of Colorado Denver. This is the kind of everyday representation we need!
