Why are you running for office?
Unless you’re well-connected, Governor Parson and his administration aren’t doing much to make a difference for you or your family. Health care is unaffordable and inaccessible for too many people in our community and rural hospitals in our state continue to close. Our schools and teachers aren’t receiving enough resources to give our children the best shot at their future. Frankly, Missourians deserve better.
As Missouri’s State Auditor, I have served as an independent watchdog for Missouri taxpayers and held public officials accountable by demanding transparency and fairness. I have uncovered more than $350 million in government waste, fraud, and abuse. I refuse to accept the status quo in Jefferson City any longer.
I want to end the secret deals, back-slaps and favors for insiders that have run rampant in Jefferson City for too long. The people of Missouri should know there is someone in their state government that will advocate for their interests and operate with openness and integrity. That’s why I’m running for Governor.
What is the biggest issue facing your community and how do you propose helping?
Today, more than 200,000 hard-working Missourians struggle to afford healthcare for themselves and their family. Under Governor Parson’s administration, over 100,000 children have been kicked off their insurance — even if they are still eligible. Our state is suing to eliminate protections for people with pre-existing conditions, rural hospitals in our state are shutting their doors, and too many citizens face challenges finding and receiving the healthcare they need. Meanwhile, the cost of healthcare is skyrocketing.
Every Missourian deserves access to quality, affordable healthcare — no matter where they live. As Governor, I will enact Medicaid expansion to close the healthcare gap, restore the coverage of the 100,000 eligible kids dropped from their insurance, and strengthen our rural hospitals. I have always fought for transparency, and I aim to bring that same value to our health care system.
How do we fix the partisan divide in our country and start working together again?
Parents and families in every corner of the state struggle with the same issues every day. Health care costs continue to rise. The quality of education continues to decline. Good jobs are tougher to come by. And so many Missourians are frustrated that their tax dollars are being given away, wasted, or stolen.
In many ways, the issues my campaign aims to address cut through rural and urban lines — we all want accessible health care, safe communities, and a quality education for our children. These are values that every Missourian can get behind and I want to lead the charge. I am running for all of the families who want these values to be recognized in Jefferson City.
