Candidate’s Preferred Pronouns

What office are you running for?

U.S House of Representatives, Georgia 7th District

With which party are you running for office?

Democratic Party

Election Date

Primary May 19th

Why are you running for office?

I was raised in the district I am running in. Gwinnett County is the 4th most diverse county in the country and the most diverse country in the South East. Growing up I never saw anyone who looked like me in office. There was never an elected official that reflected our values or our diversity. From school board to U.S Congress. The lack of representation drove me to a career in politics. I’ve worked my entire life to give my community and country progressive leadership. In 2018 we elected the most diverse Congress in history. It showed me a woman like me, a woman with the last name Islam, is electable so I stepped up to serve the community that raised me.

What is the biggest issue facing your community and how do you propose helping?

It’s difficult to identify only one but I would say healthcare. Almost 20% of my district does not have healthcare. That is why I am a staunch supporter of Medicare for All.

Who is your hero?

Shirley Chisholm/ Martin Luther King Jr.

Do you have any kids/pets/talking houseplants?

I have a cat named Kitty Islam

How can our readers get involved in your campaign?

People can volunteer or contribute on my website. www.nabilahforcongress.com
