The Florida Supreme Court ignored precedent and gutted Amendment 4. Now other rights are at risk.

ICYMI: Tampa Bay Times: The Florida Supreme Court ignored precedent and gutted Amendment 4. Now other rights are at risk.

Tampa, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Times lambasted the Florida Supreme Court for its decision last week saying felons must pay all fees, fines, and restitution before voting rights are restored. The Times editorial pointed out that an earlier federal court decision requires the Florida Legislature to create payment plans or other fixes before April.

Terrie Rizzo, chair of the Florida Democratic Party, slammed the Florida GOP for creating the restrictions in the first place:

“Governor Ron DeSantis and his fellow Republicans in the Legislature have continued to work to undermine our democracy. The people of Florida voted overwhelmingly to restore voting rights to those who have served their time, and it is about time the GOP stop blocking the will of the voters and get to work to make it easier for Floridians to participate in our democracy.”
