Speaker Pelosi Will Transmit Articles Of Impeachment This Week, Successfully Pressuring Senate GOP On Witnesses And Allowing Time For New Evidence To Come Forward
Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Friday that she will send articles of impeachment to the Senate next week.
Her strategy of temporarily withholding the articles paid off:
- She successfully highlighted the fact that McConnell won’t commit to allowing witnesses, especially after former National Security Advisor John Bolton agreed to comply with senate subpoenas. Now, key GOP senators like Susan Collins are working in a small group to try to do just that.
- She prevented McConnell from immediately sweeping the articles of impeachment under the rug before Christmas, allowing enough time to elapse for additional pieces of evidence to come forward like the new OMB emails that tie Donald Trump directly to the bribery scheme.
