Candidate Name: Dan Whitfield
What office are you running for?
U.S. Senate from Arkansas
With which party are you running for office?
November 3, 2020
Why are you running for office?
I am running because I feel like we are no longer represented by our legislators. Billionaires and corporations have been allowed to purchase our legislative branch and it’s time we return our government to the people. Our current representative has been more concerned with taking huge sums of money and repaying favors rather than taking care of his constituents. We need someone that has lived through the struggles that Arkansans face everyday, someone that understands what it’s like to be a working class American.
What is the biggest issue facing your community and how do you propose helping?
The biggest issue we are facing is the mismanagement of taxes led by corrupt legislators. We can somehow find trillions to bail out big businesses yet we are unable to find the money needed to help with medical, food, and education. We can spend $3billion/DAY on war, which most of those tax dollars get funneled into contract companies owned by ex legislators, yet 1/4 the children in Arkansas go to bed with a hungry stomach. The mismanagement of our public funds MUST stop. If we are to do this we will need to replace legislators that have been bribed with huge sums of money in order to pass legislation that hurts their constituents.
How do we fix the partisan divide in our country and start working together again?
What we need a legislative meditators. Growing up with a big sister and single mom I quickly mastered the art of medication. We need people that can cross party lines in order to hear both sides, concerns, and suggestions of each party. I will caucus with both democrats and republicans to make sure that legislation is working in a big partisan manner for all of us.
Who is your hero?
Mr. Smith from Mr. Smith goes to Washington. We lack a very important quality in our current Congress, integrity.
What are your hobbies?
I like to fish, hunt, meet new people, read, and play video games sometimes.
What is the most recent book you read?
Common Sense by Thomas Paine
Do you have any kids/pets/talking houseplants?
I have a 6 year old daughter who is in first grade. I am extremely proud of her intelligence and kindness. We don’t currently have any pets but have been considering changing that soon. It’s hard with how much we work and my campaigning. I have several plants from when my daughter Kristy passed; peace lillies, orchid, ferns, strawberries.
How can our readers get involved in your campaign?
Most importantly this is a grass roots campaign. I have pledged not to take money from special interest including PACs, billionaires, and corporations. With an average donation near $30 our campaign is supported by regular working class Americans just like you and I. Please consider donating to our campaign to help defeat Tom Cotton and his billionaire funding. Another important thing right now is signature collection. As an independent we need 10,000 verified signatures to get onto the ballot. You can go to https://danwhitcongress.us/signature-collection and find instruction on how you can help! Print it, sign it, have registered voter friends/family sign, then mail it to my PO Box!
What question do you wish we’d asked, and what is your answer?
Why am I running as an independent?
I believe that a representative should answer to their constituents and not a political party. As an independent I can cross party lines to work on bipartisan legislation and actually get things passed. We need to start focusing on the policy that effects our lives and not the party a person is affiliated with.
