What’s the difference between Poll Worker & Poll Watcher?
Poll Worker:
Nonpartisan, Paid (Clerks, Judges, Inspectors, Checker, Precinct Worker)
Poll Watcher:
Partisan, Volunteer (Observers, Monitors, Challengers)

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To be a poll worker (Warden, Ward Clerk, Election Clerk, Deputy Registrar) Must be registered to vote in Massachusetts, 18+, a resident of the city or town. To sign up, contact your local board of elections.
HOW POLL WORKERS ARE CHOSEN:
Warden is responsible for overall operation of polling place, with assistance of the Ward Clerk. The warden shall be of a different political party from the ward clerk. Election Clerk – hand out ballots, check off names & are involved in the closing process Deputy Registrar – responsible for taking care of all voter registration issues that arise at the polls Parties must submit a list of recommended enrolled voters by June 1 of each year.

POLL WATCHER INFO:
The state committee of a political party may appoint a person to act as a challenger of voters at any polling place in the commonwealth at a state election (Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 54, § 85A). To achieve the legal requirement that the election be held in public view, observers shall be allowed inside the polling place, outside the guard rail, unless they are disorderly or obstruct the access of voters. Observers may keep notes including marked voting lists. If there are so many observers in the polling place that they obstruct voters, they may be asked to cooperate in collecting information. The warden may exclude from the polling place any person who is disorderly or who obstructs the access of voters.
