March 3, 2020 (Primary)
Why are you running for office?
I believe in the American Promise of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” for all.
What is the biggest issue facing your community and how do you propose helping?
The biggest issue facing our coastal district is climate change/environmental justice. Hurricanes Ike and Harvey and the recent Tropical Storm IImelda have left our district devastated, with many struggling to rebuild. The day before Thanksgiving, a chemical plant exploded twice in Jefferson County after the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) regulations pertaining to safety measures were rolled back. I want to help by fighting for legislation to regulate and enforce stricter safety rules to preserve the environment as the Congresswoman for TX CD14.
How do we fix the partisan divide in our country and start working together again?
As a nation, we have more in common than we realize and just because we disagree with someone politically, doesn’t mean that we have to hate them. For example, when Tropical Storm Imelda hit Jefferson County, Tx, those needing to be rescued didn’t ask the first responders if they were democrat or republican or vice versa. People just wanted to “get” or “give” help where it was needed.
Who is your hero?
Dolores Huerta
What are your hobbies?
I love refurbishing furniture, its a great way for me to relax and spend time with my kids. It’s amazing what we can do with a brush and a can of paint. I also enjoy volunteering to help others at various organizations.

White Rage: The unspoken truth of our racial divide, By Dr. Carol Anderson
