What’s the difference between Poll Worker & Poll Watcher?

Poll Worker:
Nonpartisan, Paid (Clerks, Judges, Inspectors, Checker, Precinct Worker)

Poll Watcher:
Partisan, Volunteer (Observers, Monitors, Challengers)

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

You must be registered to vote in Arizona (unless participating in student program), 16+ years, a U.S. Citizen, resident of state for 29+ days, complete the required training. $100+ *Students with citizenship who are 16+ may work with parental permission. To sign up, contact the local board of elections. 

HOW POLL WORKERS ARE CHOSEN:

20+ days before election Board of Supervisors appoint 1 inspector, 1 marshal, 2 judges & at least 2 clerks to each precinct. Appointments are made from list of precinct voters submitted by party chairmen 90+ days before election. Inspectors, marshals & judges must be members of the 2 political parties which cast the highest number of votes in the state at the last preceding general election, and shall be divided equally between those parties. For clerks no party affiliation required.

The county chairman of each party may designate a party agent or representative and alternates for a polling place in the precinct who may act as challengers for the party which appointed him. At each voting place, one challenger for each political party may be present.

Who is Authorized to Challenge a Voter’s Eligibility on Election Day?

Any qualified elector of the county may orally challenge a person offering to vote as not qualified under section 16-121.01 or on the ground that the person has voted before at that election.
