What office are you running for?
Arkansas State Representative District 8

With which party are you running for office?
Democratic Party

Election Date
November 3, 2020

Why are you running for office?
Born and raised in Warren, AR, I was raised by my grandmother; we experienced the harsh reality of economic depletion and home-ownership decline. My grandmother and I have been homeless at least twice in this very community. The first time I was about 11, and was so driven to make sure we, or anyone else in this community, never went through something like that again. From then on I have put myself in positions of growth, leadership and community involvement for this opportunity.

What is the biggest issue facing your community and how do you propose helping?
It starts with bringing rural Arkansas back into the conversation of investment. This conversation must be met with passion, concern and understanding of the limited resources provided in my community. From then, I would encourage the state lawmakers to prioritize the Arkansans forgotten over the last decade. I would argue for better internet service/accessibility, LOWER TAXES, and overall shifting of funding and resources to declining communities. In addition, I would encourage more laws that give municipalities more control over their economic growth and what investments are considered beneficial. That’s just a start though.

How do we fix the partisan divide in our country and start working together again?
Diversify. It’s not that simple, but that’s a big issue. We have to many alike Republicans and Democrats in our government. You rarely see black Republicans, nor do you see disabled Democrats. We need more diverse religions in Congress and many more stories of individuals that do not look like the original Founding Fathers.

Who is your hero?
Harriet Tubman. She was willing to kill some for the sake of freeing all.

What are your hobbies?
Poetry, politics, philosophy, anime, cartoons, working out, reading, volunteering, and learning

What is the most recent book you read?
African Psychology in Historical Perspective and Related Commentary

Do you have any kids/pets/talking houseplants?
A small cat that my grandma gets annoyed by at times.

How can our readers get involved in your campaign?
Donate. Communicate. Educate me. Challenge the status quo of my district. Engaging data and historical relevancy the correlates to Arkansas as a whole.

What question do you wish we’d asked, and what is your answer?
Favorite music/artist and my answer would be Drake, and R&B.
