United States Congress, Michigan District 1

With which party are you running for office?
Democratic Party

Election Date
08/04/2020 Primary; 11/03/2020 General

Why are you running for office?
We need a Representative that understands the struggles and challenges that the people of this district face every day.

What is the biggest issue facing your community and how do you propose helping?
The economy is the biggest issue facing Michigan’s 1st Congressional District. We are rural, 25,000 square miles and exceptionally diverse. We have tourism hubs in several areas and mining in another. We must look at the future, we have the people and the skills in this district to bring green jobs to the district. We have the raw materials, we can manufacture the finished products and help build a sustainable green country. I also hope to help the small businesses of this district succeed and have the abilities to hire qualified, skilled workers and pay them a livable wage. We must also focus on building our unions. Skilled workers are needed in every part of this district. By working with unions and other CTE programs, we can lead the way.

How do we fix the partisan divide in our country and start working together again?
We fix the divide by listening. We must listen to each other, listen to those on the other side of the aisle and begin to try and understand our fellow Americans.

Who is your hero?
My children. They make me want to be better, they keep me going and they keep me focused.

What are your hobbies?
Hiking, being outdoors with my family, reading, watching movies and running.

What is the most recent book you read?
Napoleon’s Wars

Do you have any kids/pets/talking houseplants?
We have 5 children. I have 3 boys and my wife has a son and daughter. We also have 3 amazing dogs.
