What office are you running for?
Texas State Representative District 57

With which party are you running for office?
Democratic Party

Election Date
November 3, 2020

Why are you running for office?
As an Army veteran, former teacher, and current laborer, I want to voice the concerns of the working people in my area and work hard to make Texas a state that values its citizens over corporations and special interests.

What is the biggest issue facing your community and how do you propose helping?
Our community used to have plenty of industry, much of it unionized, which provided well-paying jobs that allowed folks to have a pleasant standard of living. These days, though, all of this industry is but a memory, unions are vilified, and the fallout of economic recession and divide is visible. I want to bring new industries and technologies to our area and introduce green energy advances to an area that largely relies on oil, timber, and poultry for its economy. In this “right-to-work” state, I will protect workers and teachers and stand up for their rights.

How do we fix the partisan divide in our country and start working together again?
To fix our partisan divide and start working together again, we need to focus on people. We need to get big money and corporations out of the campaign finance game, and we need to hold politicians accountable to their constituents and to the laws by which we regular folks abide. We need to rediscover our similarities and celebrate our differences in order to foster a respect for one another’s rights, individual preferences, and cultural heritage.

Do you have any kids/pets/talking houseplants?
I have a wonderful wife, two kids, and two cats.

How can our readers get involved in your campaign?
For now, they can follow me on twitter: @Rogers4Texas. More opportunities will arise in the next few months.

What question do you wish we’d asked, and what is your answer?
Who was the first political candidate advocating for marijuana legalization to be on the front page of your local paper ever?
Answer: ‘Twas I.
