What office are you running for?
Maricopa County Attorney

With which party are you running for office?
Democratic Party

Election Date
November 3rd, 2020

Why are you running for office?
I am running so that my children and all of our children have a county that is more just and fair. I spent part of my career as a public corruption prosecutor in Chicago. When I moved back to Arizona (where I was born and raised), I was shocked about the self-dealing and corruption in our state government. This office is positioned to not just to hold politicians accountable, but also bring about lasting criminal justice reform that will make our county safer, healthier, and more fiscally responsible.

What is the biggest issue facing your community and how do you propose helping?
We need to end the incarceration crisis. Maricopa County incarcerates people at a rate that is nearly unmatched in our nation. Not only is it not fiscally responsible, but it is also morally reprehensible that so many citizens are behind bars for decades for drug offenses and non-violent crimes. I am proposing to bring down the rate of incarceration by creating diversion programs that work, that treat addiction like the public health crisis it is, and that treat all county residents equitably, no matter their race, language, or mental health status.

How do we fix the partisan divide in our country and start working together again?
We focus on issue-based advocacy. Issue-based advocacy is the only way to change minds and form coalitions in a hyper-partisan environment.

Since you asked, I also think that we need to get away from thinking of partisan divides as inherently problematic. The alternative is a single-party system, which is arguably worse. Instead, we should focus on the benefits of a two-party (or multi-party) system: accountability, transparency, debate, and action on issues that people care about.

Who is your hero?
My mother

What are your hobbies?
Bass Guitar, Mid-Distance Running, Tinkering in the Maker Space, Anything Star Wars Related

What is the most recent book you read?
The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander

Do you have any kids/pets/talking houseplants?
I have three children (that I know of). I have a garden, but it is non-verbal.

How can our readers get involved in your campaign?
Connect with me on Facebook or online at

What question do you wish we’d asked, and what is your answer?
Harry Potter House.
I’m a total Ravenclaw. Having more Claws in government is exactly the change this nation needs.
