Meet the Candidate: Phil Ehr (Florida)

4 mins read

Candidate Name: Phil Ehr

What office are you running for?
U.S. House of Representatives (FL-1)

With which party are you running for office?
Democratic Party

Election Date
November 2020

Why are you running for office?
Phil Ehr is running to restore honor and leadership in Congress, fight for Northwest Florida’s working families and veterans, protect the environment, strengthen our nation’s security, and uphold American ideals of freedom, equality, liberty and justice for all.

What is the biggest issue facing your community and how do you propose helping?
Our most threatening issue is Matt Gaetz’s representation of our district in Congress, and we must defeat him in the election. America’s integrity is shown in the character of our people and should be reflected in the character of those we elect. Our commitment to virtue, and fidelity to the Constitution, form the basis of our freedom, unity, and prosperity. We must restore honor and integrity to Northwest Florida’s representation. Congress must repair the damage, re-connect with the people and deliver government of, by, and for the people–All the People.

Additionally, climate change is having a drastic impact on our community’s coastline. Our coastal beaches are priceless economic and recreational resources. Our unique beaches are the reason many people choose to live on the Emerald Coast. Public access is being threatened by private development that denies public use of beaches. We must preserve public ownership and customary use of our beaches.

How do we fix the partisan divide in our country and start working together again?
Political divide is worse now than ever in history. We must have representatives and administration officials who look for the commonalities among us, not the things that may make us different. We must lessen the gap between decision makers that hold office, and voters. Civic engagement and compulsory voting is key to giving everyone a voice. The more that Americans’ identities become intertwined with partisan beliefs, the more people feel like they have to adopt beliefs rather than risk alienating close friends and family. We have to be ready to listen to those we may disagree with, but stand up against hate.

What are your hobbies?
I enjoy beach walks along our Emerald Coast.

What is the most recent book you read?
Can’t Hurt Me – David Goggins

Do you have any kids/pets/talking houseplants?
I am a proud father!

How can our readers get involved in your campaign?
This is a grassroots campaign, powered by the people. Residents of the district can sign up to volunteer through our website. Donations go a long way as well, and every contribution matters. Amplification of our message is key to this election. Matt Gaetz has an international following and we must get our message out there that there is another option for FL1 and for our country.
