Meet the Candidate: Chris Rowe (Tennessee)

4 mins read

Candidate Name: Chris Rowe

What office are you running for?
US House of Representatives, TN-1

With which party are you running for office?
Democratic Party

Election Date
November 3, 2020

Why are you running for office?
Tennessee deserves a better class of representative; someone who will fight on behalf of average citizens, rather than contributing to the culture of corruption that’s rampant in politics. I believe I can be that type of representative, and am prepared to fight for healthcare access, public education, and workers’ rights to advance the interests of our common citizens.

What is the biggest issue facing your community and how do you propose helping?
In Tennessee, the biggest issue we have is our rapidly shrinking access to healthcare. I will be an advocate for Medicare for All, to guarantee access to healthcare for all our citizens, as well as working to overturn the antitrust exemption granted to Ballad Health at a federal level to ensure that their exploitative policies are no longer permitted, and to increase the standard of care for all Tennesseeans.

How do we fix the partisan divide in our country and start working together again?
To be frank, I don’t know that it can be “fixed,” per se. We have to speak honestly to voters to show them how the Republican party has exploited them for decades, and abused their authority to consolidate power while lying to their faces. It’s our responsibility as candidates and public officials to inform our electorate on exactly what and how we want to help them. We cannot be afraid to approach Republican voters, nor to tackle politically volatile issues.

Who is your hero?
My Father, David.

What are your hobbies?
Not that I’ve had a lot of time for hobbies lately, but when I do, I tend to play video games. It’s great to just relax and disconnect from all the chaos for a little while.

What is the most recent book you read?
Does the Mueller Report count? It was a whale of a read.

Do you have any kids/pets/talking houseplants?
No kids, but I do have 5 dogs and a cat. The cat also thinks she’s a dog; she hunts socks.

How can our readers get involved in your campaign?
Our website,, has a volunteer sign-up form, a direct link for any contributions, and a contact form for any specific questions or other information for people looking to reach out.

What question do you wish we’d asked, and what is your answer?
I wish you’d asked: why did you choose your particular race?
I chose this race, even over local or state level races, because I wanted to fight for my home, but I wanted to do so at a level that allows me the ability to affect the largest issues facing not just Tennessee, but our entire country. I’ll always be Tennesseean, as my family has been for 4 generations, but I’m also American, and there are issues that threaten all of us – rich or poor, Tennesseean or Californian – at stake in today’s world, and those are most important for us to address.
